Khamrah vs Angels' Share: is the dupe worth it?

Lattafa Khamrah is the $32 dupe of By Kilian's $260 Angels' Share. How close is it really, and where does it fall short?

Lattafa Khamrah (~$32) is an 80% dupe of By Kilian Angels' Share (~$260), it shares the boozy cinnamon and tonka-vanilla warmth (Khamrah leans on dates and praline where Angels' Share carries cognac and oak), and to almost everyone around you it reads as the same cozy, spiced-amber scent for an eighth of the price. Angels' Share is smoother and a touch more refined in the dry-down, but Khamrah is the rare dupe that arguably out-performs its inspiration on sheer power. For most people, Khamrah is absolutely worth it.

The notes: nearly the same DNA

Both are built on the same idea, cognac soaked into cinnamon, tonka bean, praline and vanilla, with a woody backbone. Angels' Share leads with a slightly boozier, more rounded cognac and a creamier tonka; Khamrah hits many of the same accords with a touch more cinnamon spice up top. Side by side, fragrance fans can tell them apart in the first ten minutes; across a room, most people can't.

Longevity & projection: Khamrah wins

This is the twist. Khamrah is a beast, it projects hard for the first few hours and lasts eight or more, arguably louder and longer than Angels' Share itself. Angels' Share is a little more intimate and refined, sitting closer to the skin. If you want the scent to announce you, Khamrah actually delivers more; if you prefer an elegant, close dry-down, the original edges it.

The verdict

  • Buy Khamrah if: you want the boozy-cinnamon-amber signature with maximum projection and longevity for ~$32. For most people this is the obvious call.
  • Consider Angels' Share if: you're a collector who wants the smoother, more refined dry-down and the By Kilian craftsmanship, and the $260 doesn't sting.
  • Either way: they share the key notes. This is one of the closest dupe matches on the market, you're not compromising much at all.

A dupe shares key notes, not the exact formula, Angels' Share has a refinement in the base that $32 can't fully buy. But Khamrah is proof that the price of a fragrance and the quality of the experience have come apart. For the cozy, spiced, boozy-amber scent everyone will compliment, it's one of the best-value bottles you can own.
